POWERS OF ATTORNEY Anyone who is approaching retirement age should have a durable power of attorney. A durable power of attorney authorizes one person to act for another, and to manage another's affairs. If a person without a durable power of attorney becomes incapacitated, an expensive and inconvenient guardianship proceeding may be necessary. This means the court will decide who will manage the incapacitated person's affairs. And, that decision may not be consistent with the person's wishes. |
